Family Pursues FELA Lawsuit

August 17th, 2008 · No Comments

The family of a Charlottesville, VA, man has filed a Federal Employer’s Liability Act lawsuit against his former employer. Edgar Goodman, the man mentioned, had been employed as a signalman for CSX Transportation from 1947 to 1951. During this time, his family claims that he was exposed to large amounts of asbestos fibers that were released from the products that he worked around.

Goodman’s family insists that CSX should have tested asbestos levels and warned workers of the hazardous material. They claim that CSX is legally responsible for the condition of Goodman’s working environment and their negligent behavior directly caused Goodman’s health issues, which eventually led to his death.

Under FELA, employers are legally liable for injuries that workers may experience due to the negligent actions of the employer.
