Burlington Northern SF CEO Gets a Huge Raise, Making $12.6 Million Now

April 16th, 2008 · No Comments

Matthew K. Rose, the Chief Executive Officer of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation, was paid $12.6 million last year. According to a statement the railroad company filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, this was a three percent raise over Rose’s compensation for 2006. At that rate, Rose’s direct compensation might not even keep up with the rate of inflation. The $12.6 million includes salary and performance bonuses. In addition to direct payments, Rose exercised options or had shares vest last year valued at $34.7 million, according to the SEC filing. Interestingly, BNSF’s profits fell last year.

Jim Young, the Chief Executive Officer of Union Pacific Corporation, suffered even more than Rose last year. His compensation actually fell by 25 percent to a paltry $9.8 million for 2007, according to the company’s SEC filing. Young’s reduced income was attributed to a decline in value of Union Pacific’s stock options and grants.
