A Federal Employers’ Liability Act (FELA) suit was filed this week against the Illinois Central Railroad. Gary Neeble, a former employee, has devoted 31 years of work to the railroad and now claims that repeated exposure to loud sounds and high decibel levels has caused his hearing loss. During his time working for the railroad, Neeble was exposed to the noises of work areas, office buildings, locomotive cabs, railroad yards, among dozens of tools and equipment used on the job.
Neeble’s job at the railroad included responsibilities as a crew caller, operator, engineer, and a handler. He worked for the Illinois Central Railroad from 1974 to 2005 and now suffers from occupational hearing loss, and back, spine, and body damage.
Neeble’s lawyers state that Neeble was repeatedly exposed to repeitive motions and excessive vibrations, as well as high decibel sounds. Neeble argues that the Illinois Central Railroad failed to properly provide him with a safe working environment as required by FELA laws. He seeks damages that exceed $400,000 to pay for his suffering, medical bills, and lost wages due to his injuries.
