According to the Federal Railroad Administration, a train derailment accident occurs somewhere in the U.S. on average every five hours. In 2007, 1,696 train derailments occurred nationwide from all railroad companies, down from 1,982 in 2006. A Norfolk Southern Railroad employee was injured on February 13th when two train cars derailed at DeButts Railyard in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Mysteriously, the train was not moving according to railroad company representative Susan Terpe. She added that the train was not in a public area.
