Salem-based railroad Portland & Western was honored by its parent company, Genesee & Wyoming, for completing a second year of injury-free operations. The Chairman’s Award is given out by Genesee & Wyoming to the best performer among the eight regions it manages in North America and Australia. Bruce Carswell, president of Portland & Western, termed his company’s safety achievements a “remarkable feat.”
Genesee & Wyoming operates several short line and regional freight line railroads throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, and Bolivia.
