The passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act of 2007 passed through the Senate recently, giving Amtrak $1.9 billion a year for six years.
These funds provides states the chance to start passenger rail service in an attempt to remove cars from the road and connect towns and cities more effectively. Also, New Jersey railroads can be repaired. These railroads service 100,000 commuters each day.
The funds come in time to help Amtrak inact new standards and make reforms to provide passengers with the best service possible.
“This is a huge victory for anyone who’s tired of sitting in traffic or waiting in airports”, says senator Frank Lautenberg. The Rail Investment and Improvement Act not only benefits passengers, but creates a higher quailty of work with better safety precautions for railroad workers.
